Vaseline works, Baby oil works. A steady hand with a good jigsaw, and a metal cutting blade at slow slow speed can work.

Same goes for drilling holes, a metal bit and some lube of some sort. I did this a week ago, and drilling/cutting with some liquid or paste compared to not using an oil based lube is much better.
