kyosho usa-1

Post by oddster » Sat Sep 08, 2018 6:59 am

Hi, new here. Sorry for entering a "tamiya-forum" with my kyoshos, but it doesn't seem to exist any kyosho-vintage forums:)
I have a bit of a collection now i think, a Porsche 911 slant nose, blizzard (heavy metal) (brushless and waterproof), and several turbo optima mid buggys. One NIB and one runner, with 6,5 turn brushless 3cell lipo. It's fast:)
My latest addition is a USA-1, bought from eBay. a bit dirty and ugly body, but a great base from a complete rebuild and shelf-queen:)
I really think that the building quality for this truck is extremely poor. but i'm used to optima mids and had a tuned up traxxas e-maxx a few years ago, so the quality of the Usa-1 was good in 1990 i guess.

No critical parts missing, but a lot of the tie rod ends was broken. I have a lot of kyosho-parts, so replacing them was no problem. There is a shaft from front steering to the rear steering, which is missing. Can't seem to get it anywhere, so i bought a 4mm rod and will try to fabricate a new one. Wish me luck:)
I dismantled the whole truck, and washed all the parts in the dishwasher to get rid of the sand. someone have had some fun at the beach here.)

anyway, got a new body from TBG, and new grille, bumpers etc. and painted the body. The only thing missing now is some hardware for fastening the body parts and pinstriping. And i do want to test the truck at some point:)

Your welcome to be here, and it's not a tamiya-only forum, so no worries.

Your pics don't seem to be working though.... :-k

*EDIT* I can see them now, very nice!

Welcome to the site! 8)

It might say Clodtalk on the door, but we pretty much talk about anything RC truck related. It's been a while since we've had an active A-1 discussion, so bring it on. 8)

Pix are working fine for me. 8)
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Welcome to the forum. Don't see too many USA-1s around. More than the MRP High Roller, though. Looks like you've got a very nice truck there!

Had to fabric the rod between the front and rear steering, it seemed impossible to get it anywhere. Used 4mm rod and bent it:) 99% fitment, good enough for me, works perfectly:)

just ordered some cheap electronics from ebay. transmitter, esc (brushed) and a nimh-battery. So this truck will be tested:)

Nice one! I really like the USA-1 trucks. I had one for a while. Got it up and running but mostly it sat on the shelf and I ended up selling it. Looking forward to reading more about yours.

Sorry for no recent updates, but here is the finished usa-1, and my new, almost finished kyosho. I even painted the interior, turned out great. To bad the jaguar xj220 chassis is some of the worst kyosho has ever come up with. At least it looks great:)

I've always admired the 1:1 XJ220. Your 1:10 looks great!

thank you. I admire the xj220 as well. And i believe this kyosho model was just a big flop as the original. The prototype (which this model is based on) had a v12 and 4wd, but jaguar concidered it to heavy to reach 220 mph, so they put in a twin turbo v6 and ditched the 4wd system. Many buyers didnt like that, so they withdraw their orders. I can understand why. It looks sooo much cooler with a v2 than a v6 under the glass-hood:) I'd rather have a slower, worse handling xj220 with a v12 than a little bit better-handling and faster with a v6:)
