SLH Stock Clodbuster Chassis Retro

Post by Budhatrain » Wed Dec 09, 2015 2:49 am

So I have been wanting to tinker around with this idea a bit... designing a chassis for my stockish clodbusters. It started a couple years ago when I built my First Blood truck using an ESP zilla kit. I needed a longer wheelbase, which meant swapping out the cradle and next thing you know I nearly replaced all of the ESP kit with my own bended metal.

Here are some chassis plates that I designed recently and had cut out. I wanted something that filled out a body with a "chassis." The tough part is the cradle because it rarely represents what is truly out there. But, with clodbuster axles you get what you get. Secondly, I wanted something that is adjustable for different wheelbases.

Still trying to finalize things... I have a pair being powder coated now and I have made some cool changes to mute the "erector set" look where the shock mounts are. It's still in process but I enjoy engaging in this part of the hobby. I will keep this post updated with future versions:-)

Watching with keen interest have always wanted to do a Clod build in this style  SLH cutout lettering in the chassis is a neat touch 8)

Have you had any thoughts in selling these later on?

Yeah that's what I am working towards. I have made some minor changes since this picture, once I get those back and built up I will post pictures.

Looking good Mike  Any future plans of getting exact replica header pipes made for Aces High?

I really like where this is going Mike! Just curious on battery location? I have an idea on battery location to share that I picked up a while ago. It has the stock Tamiya cups incorporated into the side plates. I liked the idea and would have used this chassis in my last build, but the home made chassis was twisted in spots making the suspension bind.

Just throwing the idea out there.

Looks like his lower plate is the battery plate.

I really like the look of this chassis. I'm certainly no chassis expert, but there doesn't look to be much 'meat' around the shock mounts. I wonder if that area would be prone to bending?

Thanks for the compliments!

Yeah the lower delrin plate is the battery mount. I will post some pictures of it tonight. Designed with a 2S shorty pack in mind. With the electronics they will be mounted to other crossmembers- not pictured in this prototype.

With the shock mounts... this chassis is not like the cheap ground pounder plates (prone to bending). These are quality aluminum and are nearly 1/8" thick... really robust, as pictured I have no doubt that it will hold up to basher abuse. In the revised version I have virtually eliminated all the mount holes. Kinda.... it's a really cool feature that can't wait to show everyone :-)

Any updates? How long until this chassis is available for purchase?
