Balancing Clodbuster Wheels

Post by dubbl-a »

So a while back I narrowed a set of stock clod wheels. They came out great but were terribly out of balance that it would shake truck so much at speed it was borderline uncontrollable. This could be partially due to the fact that I don't know if they were genuine Tamyia parts or knockoffs as they were an eBay deal. After siting for months, I decided it was time to try and balance these things. I fiddled around with different ways to do this but nothing worked and I didn't want to purchase a balancer and hope I could get it to work with clod wheels. So I raided the broken parts bin, and after a bit of grinding and super gluing, I had a solution.

An axle tube, knuckle, 2 bearings and a wheel axle all mounted to the side of the work bench. All these parts weren't usable to mount on a clod but worked great for a balancing stand. Within 20min I was able to get 2 wheels balanced much better than I ever had before. One wheel took an entire 1 ounce to get it dialed (sort of) in! Best of all it didn't cost a thing. Keep your broken parts!

Here's a few photos of what it looks like.

And here I built a custom-made lexan stand. What a great idea.

Should be moved to the how-to section, and a link to it added to the "popular clodbuster mods" thread .....
