WTH Did I Do Wrong? Help?

Post by hardedge »

This is my first rod build in forever and my first build of any type in a couple of decades.

One axle seems to have come out fine but the back axle, the one in the foreground, is weird and won't line up. I know looking at a few cheezy pictures isn't the best of ideas, but if anyone has a clue it would be deeply appreciated.

First thing right off the bat is to check your 4-link lengths. If one is longer, it will naturally push to one side.

Hi Hardedge,

Did you make sure pay attention to the rod lengths? Are they all the same length? Hard to tell from the pics

rod lengths
No, actually I didn't. And now that you mention it, there's a chance I mixed up a steering rod with one of the suspension rods. Be back in the morning, Thanks!!!

Silly little difference drove me crazy all day! I'll reassemble it in the morning. Again, thanks!

...and that was after I cleared away the screws and screw bags and tools. I'm creating a much bigger space to clutter in the basement. :|

In my deluded mental state I figured it would make a good secondary reinforcement to keep the hubs from moving independently. Besides, unless I was willing to grind off the the steering arms, they looked kind of silly just sticking out in the air with nothing attached.

Everything I have seen suggests that leaving the rear tie rod on even with locked out steering does indeed help by keeping the wheels locked in relation to one another.
