Well I would say I think I found the source of the rear gear problems. I don't really think gears should be shaped quite like this LOL

Well hopefully this may work well. Started looking today at places that make custom gears. Found a place that looks like they do very small and precise gears out of any material. Just emailed them to see about perhaps having some all metal gears made for my axles. We'll see what sort of price they say and go from there.

Check the bosses that hold the large metal pins that gear rides on. I've had failures like that in the past and what had happened was there was enough heat and stress that it oblonged the hole (boss) that the pin set in. I went through 2 sets of gears before I figured it out... LOL

All that said... nicely done sir! =D> :explosion:

This is what I'm talking about, and also when I've mentioned staying with brass bushing over bearings with the small 5x8's in the gears:

Because this was my result, which looks a lot like what happened to you:
(you can see the blown 5x8 bearing here too)

Never thought to check the bosses. I'll have to go down and take a look and see if they are messed up as well. Thanks for pointing that out because even if they are fine this time I'll keep it in mind to check them others times when I have the cases open.

Man those are some sweet pictures! I really love picture number 6 as you can see the reflection in the puddle of the headlights! 8)

At least you had fun before your gear became sharks teeth.

Thanks. I was actually taking the pics with my monkey feet LOL. Well, technically that is. Had the Canon 20D set up on a tripod with a remote shutter release on it but since I had my hands full with the controller I put the shutter release remote on the ground and used my big toe to push the button

Certainly looks like it was a lot of fun. Glad that I don't have to clean it, though. lol....

I wore out the pot metal pinions on my first clod, replaced them with some donated brass ones and voila, no more noise, well, less noise, and the truck would move again! I never did replace the spur gear in the gearbox, it was a little raspy, but worked for my purposes. I did later upgrade to steel pinions in my second truck and the wear was nonexistent.

Word to the wise NEVER use the stock pinion! #-o

FWIW, I went looking for my pix posted here on my Pond Day and couldn't find them. There were some pretty good splash shots of that day that rival yours. 8) Andy, get off your buns and go find those pix, would ya?!?!?!
