body makers turned SCT 1/8 scale General Lee Charger build
Wondering if anyone knows anyone with a vacuum forming setup that makes/ takes requests for bodies? I am looking for a 69 Charger in 1/8 scale to fit a short course truck chassis..
Back story - I bought a set of premounted Jconcepts Hazard wheels/Double D's and detailed them with a silver marker.. and well want a General Lee as my SCT body LOL
I emailed TBG on eBay and tried to email Kamtec in the UK but they aren't accepting messages..

Re: body makers
There were a couple guys doing custom bodies at RC10Talk.com, not sure they still are. The problem is, finding a mold to use, since the only 1/8 or 1/10 scale you'll find is in RCs. Models, Tonka, Hot Wheels, etc, all use different scales, making them usually too small to use on an RC. Heck, even Nikko and Tyko don't use the same scale as we do.
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Re: body makers
Wasn't there someone here in the forum in the process in making bodies a while ago?

Re: body makers
I gave up trying to find someone - it would need to be carved out of wood/clay as there is no 1/8 scale Dodge Charger made except the HPI MT one, but that is hugely out of proportion for a SCT style chassis SO I did/ am doing something radical that more than one person said to me..
I have purchased 2 HPI 69 Charger bodies, 4 can's of poly/lacquer Orange paint, 1 4oz bottle of thin super glue, 1 12"x 18" sheet of lexan, and 1/8- 1/10 scale General Lee decals of eBay from Canada. Just need to get some 600/2000 grit snad paper local next week before the stuff gets here..
Sadly I wish my inspiration for this was a little more justified but it's not LOL - I have done the General Lee thing before with a RJ speed body on a TT01 - sold that body/HPI stock car wheels on eBay for $80 LOL and I have wanted another quietly for a long time - so I decided t otry out the Jconcepts "Hazard" wheels - they are American Racing Vector wheels (is the actual name of them) - and funny enough the original TV show made the Ford/Mopar bolt pattern Vectors near impossible to find til about a year ago when they brought them back for nearly $300 a wheel LOL
SO my plan? Cut up $60 worth of bodies to TRY to make one fit my SC10 LOL - it's the most in depth endeavor I've ever done..
The HPI Charger body is 21" long x 7"-7.25" wide - around the same height a a normal SCT body - which is 22" long x 11.25"- 11.75" wide x 5.25"- 5.75" tall - wheel base of the Charger is 12" (1.5" longer than any other Charger), and the SC10 is 13". SO it will have to go wide as well as longer (1"-1.25") - there will not be anything left of 1 body except the fenders... LOL
Here are the J's after I took a silver paint marker to them (they look great!)

Well, I applaud you for trying. =D> Should be interesting looking once you start cutting up the two bodies. Those wheels turned out great too.
You could however try and find one of these and do what I did.

Funny story LOL I had one of those that worked - I trashed it trying to make it handle better and go faster so I sold it on eBay for $50 non running LOL now the only 3 I find - 2 are $200+ and one for $150 shipped still won't fit and look right on a SCT though...SFC K wrote:Well, I applaud you for trying. =D> Should be interesting looking once you start cutting up the two bodies. We'll see for sure - I already anticipate cutting out and making new windows, as well as figuring out how to patch the blower hole in the hood with it being 4" wider...
You ever get those RC4WD "hazards"?

I know, There is someone on Craigslist here in MN that has had one for sale now for the whole year for $150 NIB. I look now an then for another one but not willing to pay that.
I did not buy those wheels. That is a lot of money to spend on something that may or may not work. I know they won't work with the HPI tires and that is 50% of the look.

Well cutting up 2 bodies is not going to work LOL to bad I wasted $100 on the bodies - but I had to see it for myself - PM sent 1badclod851Badclod85 wrote:Todd Richings has a vac former.

I PM'd him and we are talking but I'm not sure what info he will need to know so I gave him everything I know/have which isn't much LOLSFC K wrote:That is too bad you can't make it work. BUT yes total bummer that they won't work - HPI measured the body with the molded in side pipes to its about 1/2" shorter than they say - so the sides would need to be stretched down - plus they have wheel well mold lines which I don't really want - the bumpers/grill, and taillights would look completely out of proportion to the size of the body needs to be

Hope these are good enough - I'd rather not cut up the bodies as I plan to sell them unless we find we need them..todd ritchings wrote:Zac can u put up a pic of it on the chassis so I can see it?
