Yep, once you see what you "could" do it's hard to hold back isn't it?
The irony here is that it's "slow" to me now becuase I went brushless on my old-school clod.

You will be happy with that combo I think.
I have not tried the ofna motor, don't know anything about it.

It's looking like the clodzilla will be going brushless at some point.
I now have a pair of sidewinder SV2's and castle CM-36 6900kv motors.
Plan is to run them on the same pair of 2S lipo packs (one for each esc/motor).

I'm hoping that since clod gearing is so low, it won't be an issue.
I think Budhatrain is running 6000kv motors in one of his trucks on 2S.

I ran the zilla' in the snow today and while it still runs great, I need to remember NOT to run it right after the old-school clod with dual VXL's.......
Speaking of temps, the rear titan motor was ice-cold even after running on 4S in the snow. It's really a good set-up, I've just become too addicted to making things faster.

Well, since I blowed-up the super clod with the VXL's in it, and it's still to wet to run the castle systems, I put the dual VXL's into the clodzilla.

Hopefully it's up to the task.......we shall see when I run it on 3S tomorrow.
I also finally made a top-plate for it, so now all the electronics are up high.

Pics (and hopefully vids) when I get a chance.

Not a good outing........well okay, it was at first.

Nailing the throttle would bring all kinds of wheelspin and some tire ballooning.
I was running dual 3S lipo's, one for each esc.
They were the 4000 mah 30C one's I use in my mamba monster powered slash.

So, the soft springs were soaking up the bumps, the swaybars were keeping it level, and the tires were staying on (because they are glued), and also the widener kit was giving a more stable stance.

It was really nice having all that power on demand, but really hard getting it to handle. The added WB kept it from wheelieing.....but that just promoted wheelspins........

So, I'm getting the hang of it.......then need to stop as I was headed for an.......immovable object.......
Hit the breaks............and heard snap!.......
Went to back up and heard the tell-tail crunch-crunch-crunch out of the front axle.......my day was done.

So once again, I'm not too happy.
This just kills me, as everything was nice and tight on the truck too (axles and links).
Just seems like I can't win this year.

I'm most likely taking the VXL's out, and after that.....I'm just not sure.

So if im getting this right you destroyed the gear box in the clodzilla on dual vxl's???? Or am I missing something? Dont feel bad I took out the castle setup out of my GP and put the venom esc and 4200kv motor back in and destroyed the entire transmission  Seems pretty dumb but thats how it went. The truck could handle 7700kv well but not 4200kv? very strange  Oh well Im parting the GP out so I can build a second clod  Most likely be selling the venom system also.

Your not missing anything, I broke some gears from slamming the brakes too hard.
The gearbox itself is fine........I just need to dig into the ever-shrinking bag of spare gears I have.

Pretty good chance that if my old-school re-build comes out as good as I think it will, that this zilla' is going bye-bye. I was bored with it, the VXL's were supposed to spark new life into it, not destroy it......

I think it's the tourque of these lower kv motors that is doing us in.

yeah the 7700 has torque but its really not that bad mid and top range is where its at with that motor. Dont get me wrong its still a wheely machine but geared right in a clod being a little heavier should even things out. Budha said he would just leave the stock pinion size for clods with this setup it should be fine, we shall see. I think it will be ok but may invest in in the derlin gears from Integy.

I looked into delrin gears, and after a lot of searching and reading, the general concencus was that they were no more durable than the tamiya gears. In fact EVERYTHING I could find on the subject indicated that the tamiya gears were the best non-metal gears available.

Which is not to say you shouldn't get some and see for yourself, but I'd not buy them from intigy.........

WOW I didnt look into it very well I just figured derlin was a decent matterial. I know everything aluminum from Integy spreads like butter  I dont buy there stuff to often I wish I had a molding machine!!!!!!!!! Oh well I guess all we can do is hope for the best huh?!?

After putting metal gears on my GP I will not put aluminum gears in a clod axle to noisy and there would deff. no give anywhere.

I made the mistake of buying the intigy carbon-fiber centershaft for my slash 4x4......the one with the mamba monster in it........
Didn't last 10 minutes and I was driving it on smooth pavement doing speed runs.
What a poorly designed piece of CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Upgrades........are supposed to be....well, upgrades!.......this was a downgrade and didn't even fit the (stock) components it was bolted to very well.
Rear set screw vibrated out and almost ruined my chassis on the process.
I had been warned about intigy.......lesson learned.

If you looking for an easy to replace "fuze" in your driveline the only thing I can think of is sticking with the tamiya soft aluminum pinion gears. Then you just have to pop a motor out every so often and replace them.

Me personally, I like my (noisy-as-heck) traxxas steel pinion gears.
I have yet to see noticable wear on any of them.
