I wanna try something different... A clod axle 4x4 SCT. I have a predator chassis soon to be brushless. Can someone with sct tires try it and give me a idea where to start with pinions. I plan on running 2 5700kv castle motors, or 17.5 sensored

Btw I aught to say how fast it needs to be roughly 30 to 40 mph, but still have punch

SCT tires will fit, but you are gonna' need 3S to make it remotely fast enough.
........as for pinions, go as big as you can.

If you don't want to grind the inside of the case, I think it's 16t. If you're willing to do some grinding I've fit 21t pinions but others have fit 22t.

17.5 sensored will not come close to getting it done in a Clod gearcase with SCT sized tires, regardless of what pinion you fit. Generally speaking 17.5 motors are around 2200kv. Even on 4s that is only 32500 rpm. The 5700's on 2s are 42000 rpm.

With SCT tires (4.25" outside diameter) and the 5700's installed, running the 16T pinion (24.4:1 gearbox ratio) will net you a top speed of 21.81MPH. You will need more gear or more motor RPM to achieve 30-40. Not sure of the gearbox ratio with 22T pinions installed.

If you ran the motors off 3s, your top speed would be 32.77mph with a 16T pinion.

Where is this grinding you speak of done exatly

It's the three posts inside the case and the hole the motor passes through. Two of the posts are the ones the sleeves and motor screws go through and third is the one that holds that nut in place that the anti-rotation bracket mounts to. You'l see it when you try to do it because the big pinions will bind against them.

I built one 3 years ago and ran at an NR/CTPA event. I had Castle 5700s with 15T pinions on 7 cell NiMH packs.
It worked ok on an indoor short track, but lacked top end outdoors.
Stepping up to 3s, modding the gearcase for 18T+ pinions or using 6900kv motors would help on the top end.
Suspension was also an issue. Worked well on smooth tracks and jumped well, but did not fair well on a rough surface.

Thats what im going for, I run 2wd on a medium indoor track. Also both motors will have a 2s. I think im goin to try 20t pinions...im not worried about torque cause to get traction we run slicks

Better keep it off the boards or run aluminum axle tubes.

I don't think ill have a prob so long as I can get wheel speed to pull the nose around. None of the pro 4 guys run center diffs, so I think clodstall will work in,my favor in that aspect

Does Clod stall exist when running two ESCs? I thought Clod stall was only a phenomenom witnessed when running a single ESC and motors wired in series?
