XTM makes good engines that are quite owner friendly. I've always heard good things about O.S. engines as well.

Can't help with the fuel tank, I'm not familiar with Duratrax. I would have to say that as long as you can fit/mount it properly, then it will work.

Welcome to Clodtalk. I should also say that if you're into the buggy scene, then our sister site RC10Talk would be of interest.

Hey,
Welcome to Clod Talk. The rig looks nice. I like the big tires, good for bashing.

Yes, bashing is running for fun. Can't help with the spur gear as to whether it will fit or be fun.

Gear ratios apply, more teeth = slower/torquier, less teeth = faster/less torque. Tooth count on the pinion will also make a difference on how the spur reacts.

Halgar is right about the teeth. Keep in mind that the original truck probably had smaller tires. You might want to go just a bit larger on the spur to make up for the larger tires. I did this when I ran larger tires on my NitroMT. It helped to keep the acceleration up.

i was curious about the gearing with these things, thanks for clearing that up.

i plan to gear it pretty low to have awesome torque. these things go fast enough LOL

Then you want a smaller pinion and a larger spur which will drop speed and increase torque.

I have seen gear ratios for this sort of thing over the years. I don't know where at the moment, but I'd imagine any site that runs buggies/MT's would have it or know where one was. RC10Talk is a good place to start.
