It shuts the truck down.
You must use a pair of 2S lipo's for the LVD to work right though.
It's (the LVD) not programable for different voltages.

You can run different voltages with it turned off though.

*EDIT* 11/28/13
The EVX-2's LVD does indeed work with different voltages, see page two of this thread for updates.

Mine appears to work correctly with both a single and dual 2S Lipo, I thought I read somewhere that is doesn't work right with 3S and 5S?

That's what I kept being told by those that had one.
So, your able to use a single 2S and 3S lipo and still have low voltage detection function?

I may have to give this a try with mine then.

Mine works correctly when using a single 2S (with the other input jumped across) and when running dual 2S batteries for 4S total. When LVD hits it reduces power to 50% or something like that, but it's immediately noticeable. I've run both a single 3S and a 2S/3S combo for 5S total, but have never run them to the point that LVD kicked in, mostly because I though I read somewhere that the detection only worked on either 2S or 4S. I don't have any sacrificial batteries so I didn't want to test it with 3S or 5S.

Interesting, well I have a low voltage alarm, so I'll bee checking the 3S function out when I get the chance. That way if it doesn't work....I'll know it because my alarm is going off.....instead of my lipo going ... :explosion:

I do seem to recal reading somewere that a guy tried 3S and LVD kicked in right away because it was looking for 4S voltage....and finding 3S voltage.

The alarm plugs into the balance port of the battery.

I got mine from ebay. There's lots to choose from. You don't have to get the same model I did.

to turn the LVD off on a EVX-2 you press and hold the program button and watch it flash so many times.. all the info is on traxxas.com on how to program it

I do know this - you can run lipo's in NiMH mode and you can run NiMH's in lipo mode

lipo mode (LVD) the LED is green
NiMH mode the LED is red

when the LVD is activated the truck will slow to almost a crawl, steering will be very slow.. it will be a sudden loss of power unlike a NiMH battery that gradually goes dead

If the LED on the ESC is green just let him run it - it should be fine.. no need for an alarm with a EVX-2 IMO

Not exactly,

Pressing and holding the button with the esc off, brings you into programming mode.
This can be for calibration, or mode running mode set-up (standard/race/training)
This is were the flashing lights come into play.

Pressing the button with the esc on, and holding it for about 10 seconds will cause the light to change color AND more importantly you will hear a tone.
