Axial based 6x6 bullhead cab

Post by mrgrimm » Sat Nov 08, 2014 3:02 pm

Been tinkering with this one for a while now, finally got it pretty much done. Nothing too fancy and my first 6x6 and I am pleased with how it turned out.

Specs...

HPI SF-50 servo
EVX-2 esc
Twin RC4wd 45 turn motors
Speky 2.4

I spent a lot of time messing with the chassis/links and mounting the body and such, also made the bed out of some plastic that covers the spare tire well in a real 1:1 car haha. Also notice the pintle hitch - I took apart a glovebox on a 1:1 and used the latch mechanism to allow it to be a nice spring loaded locking hitch. Basically just bent it a little and did some grinding to make it look and work right.

 That is one cool looking 6x6 and the weathering is a nice touch. I love it! I would like to see some off body shots.

That is one of the best looking ones I've seen.

This looks great. I love the tractor tread style tires and how you reused one of the Bullhead fuel tanks (I think... :?: ) behind the cab.
I have been working on an axial based 6x6 for the past few months that was inspired by my 20+ year old Bullhead body. Like you said, a lot of time was spent on the links/suspension and body mounting...
Looking forward to seeing more on this build!

Thanks! Yes I did mount the stock bullhead fuel tank behind the cab. I am not a real big 100% accurate scale guy, but I figured a big rig HAS to have a big tank somewhere and it would have taken more work than I was willing to do to mount both tanks on the sides.

Turned out OK, and actually keeps it up and out of harms way. Wouldn't want it getting punctured and leaking diesel all over the trail :)

Sadly this truck has sat on the shelf for months. I need to get it outside for a run and some fresh pics.

Few more pics of this thing. You can see its a tight fit, but nice under the small cab of the big rig. Waterproof Rx box, EVX-2, and twin motors under there.

My apologies for the horrible, short vids. I tried to film while driving. They were actually just a little better but youtube cut out about 1 minute off the ends of them???

Love it! You did a really awesome job in putting that together. =D> It moves along really well in the snow too. I bet that helped clean the mud off the tires.
