hello everbody

I came across a picture of Tiamat about 1.5 years ago
and sort of fell in love with it
Tiamat example
WP_000421.jpg (83.71 KiB) Viewed 2647 times
So i wanted to build my own Tiamat, wich i will start now
I will call it, at least for now, "Son of Tiamat"
maybe you think that name sucks or is stolen
but i want that name, first to honour Tiamat
also i thougt it sounded a little serial killerish (like son of sam orso)

and it's also MY truck ,so i will call it whatever i want !

I will also build it in a chrome/silver version
because i came across this cabin

I think i will build two actually because i also bought this cabin fairly cheap

I will offcourse do some things different, i dont want a clone
First of all ,it will be cheaper
like standard size servo's en cheaper motors
also i will build a U/box shaped chassis
for a more easy build and to be more rigid
also the size will be a little different, well only one inch shorter actually

I estemate the build will be 3 or 4 months
so expect it to end up around 6 or 7 months (LOL)
I also lost my job ,so money is very thight right now

(sorry for the bad english , i am a stupid dutch man)

theyre still rough ,and will finish them later
before i start the lower frames
but i am happy with how they turned out so far

i plan to do more this week
but because i lost my job
i am very busy , with applying for financial support
and offcourse look for work
i also have a 3 year old son and a 4 month infant boy

I also have to clean this mess in the barn first

Ps I also have to give big credits to sicnme !
i took a lot of measurments of the 6x6 frame i bought from him
without it it would take a lot more figuring out

Hi there! I just saw this thread and what can I say... i'm thrilled and wish you the absolute best of luck in getting these trucks built!
The more 6WD trucks, the better. There aren't too many of us weir- uh guys out there :)

I like the approach of the chassis being almost a "bathtub" - it gives for a nice solid build and leaves lots of room for internal gear.

Those bodies are pretty sick too. I wasn't a fan of the metallic body originally but seeing yours here it looks a lot nicer than I imagined.

The one thing I should caution you on with those long HPI Savage shocks - you will need to make a lot of room to keep them happy. I had to mount mine on very high shock towers, and also needed push them out so wide that the shocks did not hang down straight. On Tiamat they cant inwards at a slight angle. You might get away with only pushing them up and out because your chassis is narrower than mine - but I felt like pointing this out just in case.

I had to also widen the track as well to get these shocks to fit. Even now I am a bit concerned that they are too close and might tire rub.

Again, best of luck in this project, and good luck finding a new job too! It looks like you're already well on your way in getting this going and I like what I see.

hello weeb

thx for the reply
I liked the shock towers you build on Tiamat
It was part of the appeal for Tiamat to me
so i wil sort of copy them too
If i am not happy with them ,i will replace(modify) them

I also have continued a bit more

Because i dont use an aeromax frame to mount the body
I must mount the body directly to the chassis
I am now in the process of making the body mounting brackets
WP_000476.jpg (139.95 KiB) Viewed 2495 times
so i was struggling a bit to find the right height to mount the body
but i will go with this height
cabin pre fit
WP_000475.jpg (172.26 KiB) Viewed 2495 times
Saw this thing on ebay ,and bought it

$(KGrHqF,!nUFJD1HyuBeBSVb,5)Bsw~~60_85.jpg (46.49 KiB) Viewed 2495 times
Will take it apart and use for parts for the 6x6's
both axles will be used as front axles for both of the 6x6's
it came with 20kg steering servo's and with a nice bumper so the steering servo is protected
I will use the links for the Son of Tiamat

more coming soon

I have continued some more on the chassis
finished the brackets to mount the cabins, and the battery packs

WP_000522 (Small).jpg
brackets 3
WP_000522 (Small).jpg (77.73 KiB) Viewed 2427 times
I am now working on the rear lights and battery covers
one chassis will have the same rear lights as Tiamat(from tamiya)
and the other one i will give a wedico rear bumper

not 100% sure about that,
but we will see how it ends up

did some more work
because the shock mounting differs on each chassis
I have concentrated on the chassis with the normal clod shocks for a bit(more easy to build because of stock clod measurements)
WP_000575.jpg (193.71 KiB) Viewed 2365 times
this chassis is almost finished now actually
I took the brackets to mount the cabin off
so i have room to work on the esc's and other electrics
maybe i will do a mock up to see how it will become
I have also brushed the whole chassis with scotchbrite

also the bolts will be replaced with allan bolts
I orded them on ebay(from china)

I had to cut the third lower frame a bit more on the top side to make clearance for the battery cover
also will this need flush mounted (allan) bolts from the indside
so i have room on the inside of the chassis for the battery packs

when this chassis is finished ,i will stop working at it
and will continue working on the Son of Tiamat chassis
(eh ,so this chassis is for the Cousin of Tiamat, or whatever it will be called)

did some more work
installed the rear lights on both trucks

also i took this thing apart

race chassis 1
$(KGrHqF,!nUFJD1HyuBeBSVb,5)Bsw~~60_85.jpg (46.49 KiB) Viewed 2325 times
and converted it into two front axles for both the trucks
WP_000528 (Small).jpg
front axles
WP_000528 (Small).jpg (99.91 KiB) Viewed 2325 times
although i am not very happy with them!
I can see some cracks on the axle tubes where the links are mounted
also i found out after recieving the race chassis
that the diffs are glued together for crawler purposes!(aargh!)

so i think i will take them apart en repair everything
not happy with that
because i paid big bucks for the race chassis
now i have to spend more money and time on it

the front axle has been completely overhauled
glued diff has been taken out, axle tubes replaced
and some bearings replaced

because i cannot name every truck like this i build "Son of Tiamat" or "Daughter of Tiamat"
I will name the second truck for now "Big Sis"
because its the sister of SoT

Or does that name sound stupid orso in english? :?: :?

Btw today the stainless allan bolts have arrived from china
so i will finish the chassis of the second truck soon
and will do a mock up of the truck to see how it will look :supz:

did the mock up last weekend for the second truck(eh, so this is now the first?! :) )
Its far from finished though, the inside is still completely empty
the fifth weel is not attached yet<although useless , i think i will make it a working one :P
de upper shock mounts need different bolts, the ones used for the foto shot are too short
the upper frame to mount the cabin will have to be removed to do the wiring

I used cheap 17t motors,
cheap china alloy shocks,
cheap china servos for the two rear axles
And i will use cheap china esc's
and a cheap lighting kit
Maybe i will add some led's(strips orso)

It looks like its sitting a little higher then Tiamat?
I can lower it a bit more(only 10mm), what do you guys think?

Also i dont like the name i chosen first (big sis) sounded a little Super Dee Duper-ish in my opinion [-X
Because this truck is the brother of 'Son of Tiamat' , i will call it 'little brother' from now on(maybe lil bro?)

Let me now what you guys think,
and let me know if you like it !!!

Wow, you are making pretty good progress with these builds... i think the difference in height would be that Tiamat has a lower ride height. I cant tell 100% from the angle of the photos but that is my guess. I can take some shots at a flat angle with a longer focal length on the lens so you can compare and decide. I'm on the road now but will try to post for you later today.

As for the names i cant offer much. To be honest the first thing i thought of when i saw the chromed body was 'Cylon' :)
