Axial SCX10 1979 Bigfoot 2.2

Post by 87lc2 » Sat Oct 21, 2017 2:19 pm

Picked this short wheelbase SCX10 from a board member a month or so ago. Was going to use it as a trail truck, but ended up buying a new SCX10 II kit so thought it would be cool to turn this old short wheelbase version into an old school Bigfoot truck.

Truck is currently set up with SMT10 2.2 wheels/tires but looking for a better looking wheel, something that resembles the old school aluminum wheels they run on the original Bigfoot. If anyone knows of a nice 2.2 wheel please let me know. Running the JConcepts 1979 Ford body with a Clodbuster roll bar.

Currently running locked axles, 3-link setup, front steer only, lift kit, and Traxxas big bore aluminum shocks with soft TXT-2 springs. Suspension works quite well at the moment, but that is about to change.

I have two aluminum front axles on the way to add 4-wheel steer. Also making a 4-link kit to add when the axles get installed. I'm happy with how the truck came out, looks exactly like I wanted with the SMT10 tires on it. Just need to find some nice wheels.

Thanks Alex. I'm pretty happy with it, has a cool mini monster truck look to it. Looks like a Bigfoot with 48" tires.

Took it out for a little run tonight and while it looks good, it performs terribly...Parts are on the way for a full 4-link setup and 4 wheel steer which should help a lot with the turning radius. I don't like the driveshaft angles at the moment, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems. I'll wait to mess with that until I get the new axles in the truck.

I think it looks good how it sits. I bet just taking the lockers out would have such a huge change that you might not need to change too much.
Like like a pretty good contender for the next pic contest too... hint-hint... :)

Good idea Andy, I'll have to get some good photos.

I wanted to leave the lockers in as I would mainly use it as a low speed crawler, but I think I have some extra diff gears lying around somewhere. Definitely worth a shot. I wanted to add 4WS either way so I'll mess with it once I have the parts for that. It crawls pretty well, but with the lift and stock 3-link the geometry is so far off its definitely causing some issues. When turning right it lifts the right front wheel clear off the ground, turning left is OK. That is probably a combination of the lockers and lifted stock suspension.
