SFC K's CC-01 Ford Ranger

Post by SFC K » Fri Jun 16, 2017 4:26 pm

Well, I picked up another Tamiya CC-01 chassis really cheap. Had this Ford Ranger body laying around and decided to see what I could do with the two of them.

Of course, I had to get the Hot Racing Steering rack and motor mount, added bearings all the way around, cut the front block off and added a front skid plate I had laying in the parts bin. Added 1.55 RC4WD steel wheels with the New Axial BFGs, Clod mounting posts to mount the body, weathered the crap out of the body, added a driver, and had custom license plates made for it.

Thanks Andy! I did not put 1.9s on it but I did find some RC4WD Mud Thrashers and mounted them up. Much better overall.

I also custom made some Rear shock mounts, linked the rear axle with break line links with Traxxas rod ends, added some weight front and rear, and made a custom servo brace from a Traxxas carbon link I had laying around. It just so happens that the holes were at the right distance with out making new holes. It tightened up the servo mount significantly. If you own one of these rigs, you know what I mean. I need to get another one and mount it to my other rig.

Much need update. Some trails shots from our last run in DEC. Too much snow and too darn cold to do anything.

Andy,

I added weight to keep it planted and to ride more scale. Too much bounce in the rear of these. I also added a lot of eight to the front. It is really hard to tip this rig over. Its probably my favorite trail rig right now. I took this and more SCX-10 out and on out last run for the year in DEC and never took the SCX-10 out of the trunk because I was having so much fun with this!

I will have to get a picture for you of the underside.

That’s looking good. I keep telling myself I need one of these chassis kits.

Cool truck! I missed this one somehow...I too have an old Ford body like that and been thinking I should do a similar little project since it's a shame to let it sit around, but the wheelbase is so short makes it tough to fit on most trucks.

Very nice Jeff - with a few mods the CC-01 can be a very capable crawler / trail runner as you've discovered.

The front brace and body mount are perfect !

I just noticed the exhaust sticking out the back. Looks sweet. That Blackfoot body fits perfect on that chassis.

Thanks gentlemen! It is a fun truck to drive and like I said, one of my favorites. I almost bought my third CC-01 rig last weekend. I should have done it, but the wife gave me to the look. LOL

Thanks! The body mount idea was pretty slick. The brace for the servo mount I stumbled upon as well. Works great and the chassis doesn't move much now.

You have to try it! CC-01 Chassis are perfect for it.
