Great looking truck Those gears for the mods you did were expensive, but I be worth it. I like the grey wheels and tire combo you have on it. Are you getting the JCconcepts for it instead?

Thanks Jeff! I like the wheel/tyre combo too.... but thanks to Alex I have 'China' tyres on the way. I think they will look great with the wider wheels.

Bit of an update - has taken a while. Another slow project. Just to make things easier, as it might be a little confusing... I have actually have 4 Wheely Kings and this thread has all of them in it. I will name each one before I update....

Fast King (will be renamed later)
I have this one together.... just needs the esc putting in and a rear lockout made. I want this one to be a 'fast' King, at least faster than the other Kings. I have a 3350kv motor in there, but I wouldn't mind something a little quicker. I have a couple of 4400KV motors from a former project, but I'm not sure if they will be too much.... Will give it a go and see!

This one will also get the shorter shocks from the Blackfoot King, 100mm shocks down from 117mm to add to stability.

I also mounted up the 'China' tyres on the widened wheels. Thanks to Alex for donating these to me! These tyres are really soft and they feel great. I think they will have a lot of traction. I used the foams that came with them, and they still feel really soft on the widened wheels.

Tower Hobbies have been really frustrating in the last 12 months or so. Postage used to take around 1.5 weeks, now they are out to around 6 weeks. For some reason they send via Switzerland.... odd, but when I asked them they reckon it's quicker. Weird because it's not. Anyway I have been waiting for the gear to turn up so I can make the rear lockout. The plastic lockout won't cut it on this faster truck, really want the metal lockouts. I think it would be kind of cool to make it 4ws, but I'll wait and see how it turns out first.

Blackfoot King
I was using this one as my 'faster' King, but had an issue.....

I was running it on 3S and took a jump, landed on the back wheels and this happened (it has the locked diff). Alex again kindly donated a tranny to me, so I will replace the gear in it.

Seeing as though I am making a 'fast' king, I'm going to make this one into a Crawler/trail truck. I have some slightly shorter shocks to go it, some longer links and will put the locker back in the front diff. Maybe make it 4ws. Might even put the low ratio gear box back into it.

Really glad you like the tires Mark considering how cheap they are to buy they are actually decent quality. Look great too!

Took a flexy day at work today, so got a little more done.....

Fast King;
Got the rear lockout made and fitted the shorter shocks. Lockouts are made from 4mm threaded rod and Traxxas rod ends, covered with K&S aluminium tube.

Lower stance with 100mm shocks.

Had an old Clod body sitting on the work bench, so I mocked it up. Looked good! Not running this body though.

Blackfoot King
Worked on this one a little too. Squeezed in a Robinson 66T Spur Gear (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wt ... LXS395&P=7) that I bought ages ago. It's close but it does fit. The gear cover won't fit on, but I think I should be right without it. With this I was able to fit a 9 tooth pinion. This will give me a gear ratio of 40:1, which should be ok as a scaler/crawler. At the moment I have a HPI GT550 motor in it, but I may change this out for a 35T motor.

Nice thread.

I have had a couple of wheely kings through the years and really enjoyed them. I will have to start a thread with my remaining one that I stretched the wheelbase on and turned into a Digger replica many years ago. I recently dug it out and started updating it some.

Yes please! I really like the WK as a base. They're cheap and don't need a whole lot to improve them. They don't come up for sale often here but when they do they're pretty cheap.

Fast King - Now BigFoot King!

Almost done on this one. Need to program the esc and check the steering. It's forecast heavy rain tomorrow, so won't get to run it until Sunday. I was hoping to have this done just after Christmas, but it's been a slow project and quite a few people have already done the Traxxas BF body on the WK. Oh well, it's still a cool looking truck! Will report back once I have run it.

Blackfoot King is no longer.... it's now back to Crawler King

Got this one all back together. It has 92mm shocks in it, double diff locks. As a bonus I didn't realise the Hobbywing 1060 esc had a drag brake function, so I was able to keep this esc. The body is an old Skull Crusher body I bought off Hobbking years ago. not exactly a crawler body, but the closest I have and I don't really want to buy a new one.

I'm looking for this to be a crawler/semi scaler type truck. Hope to get some run time into it tomorrow.

Thanks Matt, I think it came up a treat! I'm really happy with it. I haven't actually run it yet. It poured with rain on the weekend and back to work today. Hopefully get a little run time tomorrow. The WK is such a great platform - cheap and easy to mod, I really like them.

They are commonly known as 'China Tyres', cheap off Ebay; http://www.ebay.com/itm/4xRC-1-10-Off-R ... SwMmBV1Z4N

You can buy them without the wheels, couldn't find them on ebay right now.
