If it uses driveshafts and straight axles, discuss it here.

13" wheelbase JUGGERNAUT 1 build aka GRIM REAPER

Post by GRAVETXT-1 » Sun Sep 08, 2013 12:26 pm

Hi guys I have just joined and I am excited to show you my custom built Juggernaut 1 which I have named GRIM REAPER! Has been my dream for a while to build a truck and post it on clodtalk so any comments good or bad mean a lot to me. I am passionate about rc monster trucks!

Grim Reaper is pretty much finished now but I will start my build thread from where I started in march this year. Alex (GRAVETXT-1)

Welcome to the site!

That's a pretty rare truck to begin with, so this should be good.

First upgrades were Juggernaut upgraded center gearbox 93021 and diff parts 93020 a must for anyone who wants their Jugg 1 as a runner!

After building and running a clod and four wheel steer txt-1 I really fancied a two wheel steer truck this time. So I got myself a servo mount plate and rear steering lockout from Xtreme Racing. Keen eyes will notice I had to file 1mm off each side of the support arms to fit the u bolts properly. I should have got myself some Hesse axle mounts but at the time did not realise anyone still made these. Facepalm!

Have always built my trucks with stock 540 motors so I decided on some Tamiya sport tuned motors, not forgetting metal shielded ball bearings to replace those nasty plastic ones.

Xtreme racing lock out is over complicated so I did my own simplified version straight from the mount to the gpm knuckles.

Servo saver is off a txt-1 part no.50473.

Quickly ditched standard wheelbase links off ebay for RC4WD 5.11" links = thirteen inch wheelbase much better!

More to follow very soon guys :D

Nice build - stupid question? Why did you opt for the rear steer lockout?

Hi buddy not a stupid question at all main reason is for stability so I can throw it about a bit more and not have the paintjob scratched i.e rollovers. Also have never done a lock out before so something new for me to try.

Suspension is courtesy of Tamiya super low friction damper set part no. 53492. An upgraded version of the standard oil shocks you get with a txt-1, nice quality very smooth.

Thirteen inch wheelbase suits the Jugg well don't you think? Standard eleven inch wheelbase looks a bit scrunched up while some stretched Juggs can look overlong and gangly in my opinion.

One thing I've never understood with these trucks:
What keeps the axles from moving side-to-side?
I don't see any triangulating links, both sets go straight.... :?

Basically the suspension is what controls the slop so the tighter you can have them aligned the better hence the orange o rings you can see on my truck. To be honest the amount of movement is comparable to a stock clod so not to bad really.

Nice build. Could you tell me, are those sport tuned motors brushed or brushless?
My son... ask for thyself another kingdom... for that which I leave is too small for thee.

Thankyou. Sport tuned motors are brushed they offer similar high torque of a standard 540 but maybe 25% more top end speed.
