Kyosho USA-1 Sassy chassis

Although not considered a traditional monster truck, they still have monster coolness.

Kyosho USA-1 Sassy chassis

Post by rocpede » Thu Jun 25, 2015 9:21 pm

I picked this truck up a couple weeks ago. It was a little dirty. Truck was good shape for it's age. Here are some pics of how I got it. I order Thorp Mfg. gears, came with 2 sets of new gearboxes, new bearings and cleaned up the aluminum with 60, 150 and 220 grit sand paper.

After I took the truck a part cleaned it all up. I started sanding all the aluminum parts and getting them looking nice an shiny. Washed all the plastic parts. Getting the shock towers powder coated gloss black.

As I was taking the truck apart I noticed these cool lockouts and I have never seen them before..

I have always wanted a USA-1, in any form. Stock or modified. It was the monster truck I used to dream about when looking through Towerhobbies catalogs way back when. Wanted one more than a Clod even. I now have a garage full of RC's but still no USA-1.

I was the same way to, always looking at the monster trucks back then.. I have more old school trucks then the newer trucks on the market. I have always wanted a Kyosho USA-1. I remember seeing 1-1/2 years ago that a member on RCMT had one for sale, but didn't have the money then. Fast forward to now, I sent him a message to see if it sold. Lucky me it didn't sell and I made him an offer he couldn't say no too.

Did some more work on my Sassy Chassis Kyosho USA-1 last night. It's a roller!! I made some braces for the shock towers and braces from front to rear shock towers. I used Traxxas big bore aluminum shocks and Tamiya TXT-1 springs. Going to take it all part and polish some of the aluminum and install the steering servo.. Here are some pics..

Glad you shnaged out the yellow springs, they hurt my eyes (as my kids would say!)

Almost makes me wish I didn't sell mine!

Thank you for the kind words.. An yes the yellow springs had to go.. I'm still trying to think of what ESC I should use.. I would like to use brushed motors. I was looking at the Traxxas EVX-2?

Long time since I have said anything about this truck. Hopefully after I move in the next month. I can take it apart and do all the polishing I mentioned in my other post..
