Although not considered a traditional monster truck, they still have monster coolness.

My Blackfoot III // Full Alu Conversion and 4WD

Post by The Knight » Fri Sep 05, 2014 11:47 am

I will show you my long-time monster truck project "Tamiya Blackfoot III". In progress since 06/2012.
It's MOA but no solid axles rather suspension arms. In stock it was 2WD, but I changed it into 4WD so driving is faster and makes more fun. Some of you know this truck as "Wild Dagger" from very late 90's.
I also changed every part into aluminum. Especially the chassis is 3mm thick alu. Looks awesome! It was my first RC car and I used it to learn many many about modelmaking. So it have a special place in my heart. :D

Photos to you, If you have questions ask them. :)

Smart move going for four wheel drive  has to be one of the best BF III's I have seen.

Pretty certain one of these or a Dagger will be my next truck getting tired of shelf queens want something to bash the hell out of like I used too!

Lot of work! The stock chassis was terrible. After every drive something gone broke! Servo horn brokes, servo mount brokes, screews comes out, dampers are pointless, plastic bearings, tires only so-so ....hell... many more.

I consider to change motors into 15T HPI firebolts, they are much faster than the 23T Carson cup machines. But not this year.

aaah I forgotten, I have made videos of the Blackfoot:

My Blackfoot is back! And it drives now much faster because I'm using Firebolt 15T Motors on an EVX-2 esc and 2S Lipo. Powerful upgrade!
I also have changed the front grill, yellow beadlock rims and Super Blackfoot axles. So it looks like a bit the old Blackfoot. ;)

Sweet truck and thanks for not posting small thumbnail pictures like in the first post. They took me to some site to download a online game.

The new grill and rims really add to the look! 8)

Just saw this and I like it a lot!

Any info on the wheels and tires used and if there were any wideners?

Really good looking truck.

The rims wasn't good, brokes fast and not available on market (gmade product). Tires are HPI Mud Thrasher and they are ok, but on loose ground they are not good. It's better your truck is heavy, so the tires get good grip.
Next time I would buy Pro-Line Destroyer or new Axial Grave Digger tires.

The wideners are Tamiya Super Blackfoot axles part number muste be #9805391, I think. They are 7mm longer than stock. But you'll need alloy tube between ball bearing and hex adapter. ;) Easy, cheap and very stable (no flex)!

I have ran mine a couple times with the HPI Thrasher wheels and tires with 15mm aluminum wideners with barrel nuts and they have worked really well. I hear you on the loose stuff but mine seems to power slide a bit which I like. My only issue with mine is steering under full speed is super wide, but when you slow down it turns sharp.

My other issue and it is ESC related is when I let off the gas, it goes into full brake and will flip the truck if I am not paying attention. Its a no name dual motor ESC I picked up really cheap.

For the Proline Destroyer wheels and tires, I think they will be a bit much for thee trucks. I tried one on mine and did not like it and it would require even wider wheel wideners.
