Hey all! Been a while since I’ve posted about this rig. It’s gone through some major changes recently. New body, and a new chassis to fit the huge ~19” wheelbase. Did a poor job at takin pics during the process, but will upload what I can over the next few days maybe.

Here’s how it sits today...

Time to add some pics of my progress to date. I apologize if they are huge, hard for me to properly size them with the image host.

I had to come up with some way to mount my newly acquired 1/6th scale CXT body to the tiny Gecko frame, so I 3D printed some long extensions and mounted them to the frame. They worked well - a little flex, but nothing major. The biggest problem I had were the homemade links were too soft and bendy, climbing my stairs (video soon) would bend them up when it rested on the links. This rig is HEAVY, official weigh-in yet to come.

It was time to find a frame that was more suited for this huge body. I found a MaxStone 1/5 Crawler chassis, it was anodized a terrible lime-green color but a quick soak in some greased lightning, and it was back to a nice bare aluminum finish. I 3D printed some body mounts to fit the holes that the previous owner of the CXT body had drilled.

Image

Soon after, I decided I needed longer shocks than the Traxxas ones that were on there. I got some 150mm GPM Yeti XL shocks, these things are huge - got some 140mm shocks on the slow boat from China to see if they look better. Also some Vanquish titanium links added, no more bendy all-thread!

Image

After all that, this is about where I was with this build...

Image

Unable to leave well enough alone, but happy with the way the body was mounted, I decided it was time for some power train upgrades - Hot Racing 100:1 aluminum gears, and some RC4WD XVDs!

Getting them all ready to go to work...

And mounted back up to the chassis...

So this is how it sits today...

And here is the beast next to my two Raptors, middle one with a CPE Barbarian and wraith axles, and the one on the left an SCX10-II...

Next up will be an electronics re-do. Holmes hobbies motors and crawler ESCs (super drag brake) and some good servos. The Solar D772s I have in there now have loads of torque to turn the huge tires, but I have broken a few in the past, so I am not sure they will hold up to the stress I am gonna put on them.

I will get some videos up later, thanks for reading!

Oh sorry, too early to tell on this build- but did have them on another build a few years back and they did great.
