will these motors and esc give me extra speed?

Post by l300lover » Sun Jul 16, 2017 3:46 pm

I'm looking at this esc:

https://traxxas.com/products/parts/escs/3019Revx2lvd

and these motors:

https://traxxas.com/search?keyword=21t+motors

I need the reverse motor right? the esc is made for dual motor trucks. how fast will I get with this setup? without changing pinion gears. stock except for the ball bearings. and the chassis brace by CPE is on the way.

Firstly welcome!

You need the reverse rotation motor for the rear and normal rotation for the front. If you were to use 2S batteries then these motors will be around the same speed as stock. By using 4S as they are designed to, speed will almost double. Andy on here uses this exact same combo, but I think he has larger pinion gears.

He had some really good info here; viewtopic.php?f=52&t=26702

He PM'ed me. He has a clod that is all stock with bearings. With a stock clod, those motors will not fit (they are too long). That esc is fine, but I would recommend using it with a single 3 cell lipo battery (bypass one of the plugs on it) and use your stock motors. You will be amazed at the speed increase. There are other esc's people on here use as well that have a single battery plug and are rated for 3S (3-cell) lipo batteries. Hopefully someone can post a link. I use a castle creations sidewinder 3 esc, which is a brushless esc, and program it into brushed-mode and have a pair of Y-harnesses I soldered up that run to stock motors. and I'm very happy with it.

I use traxxas XXL ultra shocks (four) traxxas big bores in XXL length would be good as well. A quick search of ebay found these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Traxxas-3762-Bl ... SwBt5ZKXPt
That's a decent price, I'd buy 2 pairs of those and you would be set. Traxxas rustler/bandit/slash/stampede all use these on the rear (fronts are shorter).

This is the size/type 3S lipo battery I use. http://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?rou ... uct_id=463
Unfortunately it's out of stock right now.

This esc; http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Original-Ho ... SwbsBXpAk6

Can take up to 4S (single battery) and has dual motor outputs.

could I run these motors?

https://www.tamiyausa.com/search.php?q=53068

the guy at Tamiya said they are zero wind so I can use one as a reverse. do you guys believe this is true? and how do I run the traxxas evx-2 with a single battery? could I get 2 of these esc's instead?

I use the same shocks for the front and back? and will it be set up as 4 shocks or 8? are they easy to attach too a stock chassis?

Have a read of Andy's motor thread that I linked a few posts up..... most of the answers to your questions are in that thread.

Yes you can run the Sport Tuned motors.

You could run both of those motors off the XL5 if you make up your own loom.

Yes, same shocks front and rear. The springs are a little stiff, but the Clod springs can be made to fit those shocks (just need to stretch the bottom of them).

I think I want to run a traxxas evx-2 with 2 7 cell batteries. would I have to tape one of the batteries on top of the other one?

I'm very sure that the Tamiya sport tuned motors will only be rated for 2S or 8.4v max. I think they will burn up quickly running 14.4v through them.

You can put the 2nd battery inside the chassis or cut another hole and get some more Clod battery cups.

I will get those shocks asap. are there some 540 motors that would work well with the evx-2 and still fit a stock super clod? or will those stock motors handle 14 cells? is that a good idea to run 14 cells thru the stock motors? and will 14 cells be as a 3s or 4s?

14 cells will be like a 3S lipo in terms of speed, but will not pack the low end punch. That is simply because lipo batteries have more punch.

Back when I was new to this I used to run 14 cells. It was good and gave the clod a nice kick in the pants. You'll be heavier doing it this way, but it will make things simpler.

The stock motors can take this voltage better than any other 540 size motor that you would want to put in your truck. Having said that, a single 2S (two cell) lipo and a pair of HPI 15T firebolt motors would be another option.

...having said all of the above, and been where you are right now.... whatever esc (EVX-2 or any other that will do 3S) ... the stock motors ... a 3S lipo, and heavy wire connections with either direct solder or high current connections from ESC to motors will make your clod feel twice as fast and last a long time.

Based on what you have told us though, I suspect you are trying to keep things as simple as possible. In that case then just do the EVX-2 and dual nickel batteries. You still may want to put better motor wires on there though. The stock ones are kind of thin.

why go with 2s and 2 HPI 15t motors? I thought you said the stock motors would handle the current better than any other 540 motor. Why not do the HPI motors with a 4s lipo? The EVX-2 esc can handle the 4s right?

You said in another post that the HPI 15t motors burnt up on you...
