motor/ESC question

Post by scClodmaniac » Mon Dec 23, 2013 1:36 am

I have a clod with a novak reactor ESC with a pair of reedy 19 quad mag motors. My other clod has a xp sc200 ESC and a pair of epic fantom team stock motors
Are these any good? They both run. Novak will run for a few mins and cut out the xp sc200 was only bench tested
Thanks,
Peter

What kind of shape are your packs in?

Not familiar with either of those ESC's but it sounds like the dual 19T doubles could be drawing a lot from that ESC hence shutting it down. What are you running for batteries?

I threw one of my 3300 mah 20c packs that I run in my dirt oval car. Its a new pack but I'm sure its not sufficient enough to run 2 motors!

The SC-200 is on par with the XL-5, and a good esc (I've had a few).
You are exceeding it's motor limits though, especially with those quad 19's.

A traxxas EVX-2 w/LVD would solve your issue's.
If you prefer novac, a super duty XR or super rooster would be the way to go.

Reactor has a 12 turn motor limit, which means it can run a pair of 24 turn motors in parallel, you are overloading the esc.

Clods can usually run a little hotter than the esc is spec'd for as they are geared low and the motors are "helping" each other.

How hot is the esc after it quits?

What is the timing set at on those motors?

I would try it with the motors at 0 deg timing, if it still cuts out see how hot the esc is(has thermal cutout), if its not hot check the voltage on the lipo.

Thanks guys for the replies.... My plan was to replace the esc's with a couple evx2's.. The motors seem to run good. I'm new to working on clodbusters... Especially with anything having 2 motors.

Just remember (as posted above) that when using 2 motors (in parallel) that you have to divide by 2 to get the single motor equivalent.

Just put a jumper wire on the non-bec plug for the EVX-2 and run 2S.
You can run 3S.... but your motors will not last long (they will scream though)
