Time for another crawler!

Miss my old crawler and have been thinking about building another. Picked this up today from Craigslist. Stole it for $100.

Today's project, got rid of the crazy angled aluminum stock the last owner used for body mounts.

Also designed and 3d printed a new bottom plate/battery tray to fit the gecko chassis. The one that came on it had a broken screw, was drilled off center, just not good enough for my level of OCD. This one is still a work in progress, but I got the fitment about right!

Next step, to make some sort of electronics tray, drew something up real quick, and it's on the printer now - I'll see how it turns out in the morning!

I like the way the electronics tray turned out, perfect fit! Also made up some body mounts, and added some battery strap loops to the bottom plate!

It's a Lulzbot Taz 6. Mostly use PLA for everything, including the beadlocks I use, they hold up very very well, even on my brushless rig.

Got some ESCs today, with my DX6r I'll be able to adjust power on the fly to the front or rear motor, should help with getting up and over those tough obstacles!

Picked up a full chassis with complete gearboxes the other day for $40.. It's pretty dirty but nothing looks broken, and the axles spin smooth... Now, do I cannibalize it for stuff I need for my crawler? Or do I try and restore it to make a 'basically' stock clod? I say basically because I know I won't use the mech. speed controller, and won't use the stock steering setup, I love the 3D printed servo mounts I have been using, very solid.

Spent some time this weekend tearing down the axles, stuffed in some ball bearings all the way around, and replaced the plastic cases, as they had some cracks. With a race truck I normally wouldn't bother with aluminum parts, since go fast equals bent parts. But since I'm doing a crawler, I prefer aluminum since I will be going slow, and most likely wouldn't bend aluminum, whereas I will probaby crack plastic.

Made up some new links, since the old ones were kinda ugly.

Slapped on the servo mount, and the rear axle is done. Will get started on the front in the next couple days.

Got my Mudslingers mounted up to my sweet 3D printed beadlocks. I love these tires! Stuck the raptor body on too real fast for a quick glamour shot.
