Guess this Truck

Post by Sixtys Guy » Sun May 28, 2017 12:42 pm

I know this isn't a Clod, I know it's a crawler, but I have no idea what this is. Found it for sale on a local BST site. Not buying it, just interested to know what it is.

I'm suspecting a home built creation, I've never seen axles with that motor placement.

If you've never seen the "bad monkey" creation, look it up. A machinist made his own RC crawler from scratch. He did some crazy awesome stuff with his build.
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

So it turns out Google is my friend!

Found out it's an ACME 1/8 Crawler. They also have, or had a 2.2 version.

I did find one old forum thread that said a gear broke on the first run. While googling I did find a couple of online shops in the UK that sold spares. I reckon it would be a gamble to own!

I would not be surprised to see durability issues. Unfortunately, while we have the ability to scale these things down from the real deal, we don't have the ability to scale up the strength of the parts for the abuse they will see, either that or making bulletproof parts is cost prohibitive.

Another one of these just popped up on a FB RC Sales page. Cheap, but I need another truck like a hole in the head!
