HotRacing Clod Steel HD 8mm CV shafts ?

Post by nvxwax » Wed Nov 16, 2011 1:10 pm

Has anyone used them before? And what wheels can i run with them?

What size hex does the clod have?
will accept most 14mm wheel and Hot Racing 17mm or 23mm hex hub (but no longer work with 12MM Hex)
Also, Does anyone have a source for the MIP front CVD and Rear straight axles?

The clod uses 12mm
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming to the Lord,
"Wow, What a ride!"

We have the MIP CVD axles, but unfortunately not the straight axles. We'll offer up free US shipping on the CVDs we have though!

Thanks,

Are the stock rear dogbone axles ok for a race clod? I don't really have an option unless i put a cvd in the rear, i don't plan on having steering in the rear (seems like a waste)

Try TTR. But with the online store being off line, you may have to send Darren an email and ask for a paypal request. Or you could give Paul at JPS a call.

the CVD's add a 1/4 width to your setup which is why people encourage you to go with CVD's front and back (but that's $65x2). With the Straight Axles- they too have this same width and is slightly cheaper route to go at $35 a pop only through JPS (he has around 80 in stock so I don't think they will run out soon). I like going this route but one (JPS needs to be contacted and then send your package back on time- sometimes that can be difficult)- however they are sturdy and they are great for the rear lockout support.

On my first build I tried to compensate and keep my stock rear axles by getting two different sets of wheel wideners (1.5in rear and 1.25 for front)... but when it was all said and done I spent just as much money on a rear lockout + two sets of different sized wideners. Now I have one set of wideners in my tool box that I cannot use on the same truck- unless someone wants to do the same thing and pick them up from me.

Finally I just bought like four sets of CVD's and three sets of straight axles just to keep on hand for future builds. I have converted all my trucks with CVD's front and straight axles rear... except of course for the berzerker, CVD's all the way around.

I have to say the CVD's and straight axles are my favorite upgrade for the clodbuster axles.

Ok any other options for solid axles for the rear of the clod? I called JPS and they said that had them but they never charged my account and its like pulling teeth to get them on the phone or email. i have seen some bad customer service but The North American beaver has a big tail.
