Aluminum Clod body???????

Post by vwjuice » Thu Jun 30, 2011 5:00 am

This is pretty sweet. Imagine all the detail work a guy could do.

When you look at the pricing, it's not that bad surpsisingly. Not any more than a complete clod body off ebay. Plus the optional stuff he has is cool.

If this is the same guy or the same process as the guy a few years ago, it's soft aluminum that's formed to the stock hard shell. That means that it's too soft to be anything but a shelfer, unless you like the "natural" look of bashed up bodies on your RC.

At first I thought it looked great, and then I read your comment Halgar.

Then I went back and looked at a video of him smackin it around like Charlies wife does to him.

He is using thicker aluminum now, not that I new that before, but I spent 10 minutes reading a bunch of pages.

I think it would be neat if I had a scale rig, but all my trucks are run at a high rate of blindness, lol!

He showed a video of a lunchbox rolling down a bunch of rocks and it had damage, but not too bad. He also states that these bodies are intended to receive damage like a real one would.

You can't expect anything less.

I wouldn't use one unless it was a shelfer, but then I'm extremely hard on bodies, so ... :?

Yeah I would use it as a shelter body or maybe a little cruising in the street in front of the house. Any rough driving means a lexan body or maybe a beat up hard body.

the bodies are actually pretty tough but meant for a scaler and meant to show damage..not like tinfoil, my junkyard yota started out as one of stu,s bodies..not meant for high speed bashing

Well I emailed Stew about his aluminum bodies. Right noe he is about 3-4 weeks out on the bodies, BUT he is getting ready to redo the options and offer them out of .010" thick aluminum instead of .008". I am going to get a clodbuster body with all the options once he's ready to accept more work. It'll be a shelf queen body, so I'll put the best paint job I can on it and load it up with lights and maybe even customize it a little bit. Maybe shave the door handles or something like that.

I think it would be a sweet shelfer. Being aluminum you can do good prep work getting the body straight and using automotive body filler to make sure it's smooth as glass before paint. Plus you could use autotive paint giving you a wide array of colors.
